ADA Paratransit Eligibility For Visitors

The City of Tucson ADA Eligibility Office ensures paratransit eligibility for visitors in Tucson, Pima County, and other jurisdictions, in accordance with ADA requirements.

Definition of a Visitor

A visitor is an individual with disabilities who does not reside in the area served by the local transit agency.

How to Qualify

To qualify for visitor eligibility, the visitor or their local transit agency must provide documentation confirming the individuals ADA paratransit eligibility in their home city.

Required Documentation:

Proof of ADA eligibility from the visitor's home state or city.

If a visitor lacks documentation of ADA paratransit eligibility, the ADA Eligibility Office may require:

• Proof of residence

• Proof of disability

For visitors with an apparent disability, no additional documentation is needed per 49 CFR § 37.127(d).

For non-apparent disabilities (e.g. cognitive disabilities, cardiac conditions), documentation such as a letter from a medical professional or evidence of eligibility for other disability-based services may be required.

Alternative Documentation:

If the above documents are unavailable, the visitor may sign a statement verifying their disability and inability to:

• Access a bus stop.

• Navigate an accessible fixed-route bus (Sun Tran) in Tucson.

Duration of Eligibility

Visitor eligibility is valid for 21 days within any 365-day period. Visitors needing service beyond 21 days within the same year may be required to apply for local eligibility.
