Construction Water Meter Fire Hydrant

Fees for construction water meters installed on fire hydrant for contractor use:

Notice: City Code Amended – Privately Owned Fire Hydrant Construction Meters Phased Out

Effective July 1, 2026, the City Code has been amended to phase out the program allowing privately owned fire hydrant construction meters.
 

What changed:

  • No new permits are being issued for privately owned fire hydrant meters, except for government entities.
  • Existing permits remain valid only through their current expiration date, provided all applicable requirements continue to be met.
  • Accuracy testing is still required for all meters currently in use.
  • Meters that fail accuracy testing are not eligible for replacement or reissuance of a permit.

What this means for permit holders:

If you currently hold a permit for a privately owned fire hydrant construction meter, it will remain valid until it expires, as long as your meter continues to meet accuracy testing and other requirements. Once a permit expires, or if a meter fails accuracy testing, a new permit will not be issued.
