Celebrating Four Years of Acting Boldly to Combat Climate Change

Tucson, AZ.—Mayor Regina Romero and the City of Tucson are celebrating the actions Tucson has taken to combat climate change since passing our Climate Emergency Declaration four years ago. Mayor Romero brought the emergency declaration to Mayor and Council in September of 2020. The unanimous vote committed Tucson to reach carbon neutrality in City operations by 2030.
In addition to directing over $80M towards
implementing
Tucson Resilient Together, this year Mayor Romero’s leadership continues shaping local, state and national policy. Mayor Romero led Mayor and Council as it passed the Heat Action Roadmap and Worker Heat Protection Ordinance—two actions that are increasing the City’s ability to mitigate and manage extreme heat and build resilience for the future. All the while, continuing to champion federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding and Inflation Reduction Act dollars to Tucson, advocating for communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Mayor Romero leads a group of 23 Mayors and government leaders to urge FEMA to include extreme heat and wildfire smoke as major disasters under the Stafford Act

Mayor Romero and City of Tucson celebrate $11.38M FTA grant to replace bus lifts to ensure greener, cleaner buses are operating and optimal efficiency and to invest in additional bus shelters to protect bus riders waiting along major heat corridors
