Paid Time Off

Vacation

  TheCity's rich vacation program ensures that you have time to rest and rejuvenate.
Eligible employees who are new to the City earn 13 vacation days annually and work up to 26  days after 20 years of continuous service:

  • 0-1year 13 days (104 hours)
  •   Over 1-2 years = 14 days,5 hours (117 hours)
  •   Over 2-6 years = 16 days, 2 hours (130 hours)
  •   Over 6-9 years = 19 days, 4 hours (156 hours)
  •   Over 9-14 years = 21days,1 hour (169 hours)
  •   Over 14-17 years = 22 days, 6 hours (182 hours)
  •   Over 17-20 years = 24 days, 0 hours (192 hours)
  •   Over 20 years = 26 days,0 hours (208 hours)

Sick Leave

Eligible employees earn 13 days (104 hours) of sick leave each year.

Holidays

Eligible employees receive 12 paid holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Presidents Day
  • Dolores Huerta Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Floating Holiday or Birthday (depending upon your position)

Leaves of Absence

The City of Tucson offers up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave.

  In addition, leaves are available for Family Medical Leave (FMLA), other qualifying  medical reasons,and USERRA


Full-time is defined as permanent or probationary employees working 40 or more hours per pay period.  Days are based on 8-hour days.

Medical Insurance

  • Three plans: two high deductible health plan options (with HRA or HSA) and one EPO In-Network Only plan
  • Generous employer contributions toward rates
  • HSA plan includes additional employer funding to help pay for out-of-pocket expenses such as deductibles and coinsurance 

Dental Insurance

Two plans: An HMO and a PPO

Generous employer contributions toward rates

Life Insurance

  • City-paid Basic coverage equal to annual salary rounded up to the nearest thousandth (maximum of $50,000)
  • City-paid Basic coverage for eligible spouses and children equal to $5,000 for dependents age 6 months and older
  • Employee-paid Supplemental coverage based on salary (maximum of $300,000)
  • Employee-paid Spouse coverage (maximum of $22,500)

Long Term Disability

City provides base coverage of up to 60% of base salary to maximum benefit of $4,000 per month for up to five years (6 month elimination period)

Buy-up coverage (employee-paid) pays 60% of salary to maximum of $6,000 per month up to age 65 (90 day elimination period)

Flexible Spending Accounts

Pre-tax, flexible spending accounts for health care and/or dependent care expenses

Voluntary Insurance

Supplemental Voluntary Insurance Products (employee-paid): Disability, life and accident and illness

Employee Assistance Program

  • Provides counseling free to employees and dependents
  • Up to six face-to-face sessions per occurrence per year
  • Unlimited 24/7 access to professionals
  • Financial aid and legal consultation
  • Trusted online resources and tools

Workers' Compensation

Benefit rate is equal to 2/3 of the employee’s average monthly wage up to the monthly maximum salary defined by law

Pension

  • City of Tucson Supplemental Retirement System is a defined benefit pension plan for civilian employees (not commissioned Police or Fire)
  • Public Safety Personnel Retirement System offers retirement options for commissioned Police and Fire personnel

Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan

  • The City of Tucson offers a variety of ways employees may save for retirement

Tuition Reimbursement

Eligible employees can receive up to $4,000 per calendar year toward existing student loan repayment through the Qualified Education Loan Repayment Assistance Program, or up to $5,250 per calendar year toward tuition costs for current qualified education courses through the Tuition Reimbursement program, as long as funding is available.
