Community Policing Highlighted in TV Video

Officers from the Tucson Police Department (TPD) were featured recently in a segment on Arizona Public Media's (AZPM) Arizona Illustrated. The video showcases the area known as the Downtown District, where police walk, ride bikes, and use mobile units to move through the booming downtown area.

Community policing is part of TPD's recent efforts to engage, foster relationships, and build trust in the community.

Tucson Meet Yourself Begins Friday

Get ready for lots of food, entertainment, and culture in Downtown Tucson this weekend at Tucson Meet Yourself. The annual celebration recognizes traditional arts of Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico and their diverse ethnic and folk communities. The three-day event begins Friday at 11 a.m. and runs through Sunday (follow link above for hours).

The festival features hundreds of artisans, home cooks, dancers, musicians, and special exhibits that celebrate diversity.

Tucson Roadrunners Hold First Practice

Tucson's new American League Hockey (AHL) team practiced for the first time yesterday at the Tucson Arena. Before season play gets underway, the Tucson Roadrunners - the Arizona Coyotes' affiliate - will hold a Red and White scrimmage game this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the arena. All of the Coyotes' NHL players will play in the game with the AHL players from the Roadrunners. Admission is free, but the Coyotes are requesting fans donate $5 upon entry into the arena.

Candlelight Vigil for Mental Illness

As part of Mental Illness Awareness Week this week, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southern Arizona invites the community to participate in the Candlelight Vigil for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding. There will be a short candle lighting ceremony and personal stories of recovery and hope. Speakers will tell their stories about how mental illness has affected them, their path to recovery, and how they found help and hope.
