Pima County Facilities Management Department, as part of their ongoing effort to make County owned and managed buildings safer, is enhancing security and changing the way the public and employees enter the Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Ave. The Public Works Building is home to the City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department, the Department of Transportation and Mobility, and the Business Services Department's Taxpayer Assistance Division.

Beginning Monday, July 7, the public will be required to enter through the east doors facing Stone Avenue and pass through a screening system before getting access to the rest of the building. This affects all members of the public, whether they are visiting Pima County or City of Tucson offices, or attending public hearings.

Entrants do not need to empty their pockets or present bags and backpacks when passing through the screening system.  However, if the system alerts, entrants will be directed to the side for a secondary check. The screening system is not set to alert for common metal items like cell phones, keys, or glasses. But items with more metal, such as laptops will require a bag inspection.
