Traffic Alert - Greasewood Road from Ironwood Hill Dr to Speedway Blvd

ROADWAY PRESERVATION PROJECT
GREASEWOOD ROAD – IRONWOOD HILL DRIVE TO SPEEDWAY BOULEVARD
On Monday, March 18, 2024, VSS International, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to begin a roadway preservation project on Greasewood Road from Ironwood Hill Drive to Speedway Boulevard, as part of the Tucson Mayor and Council approved 5-Year Collector Street Program.
Crews will begin the project by conducting asphalt patching and tree trimming within the project limits. On Thursday, March 21, 2024, crews are scheduled to close the northbound travel lane while crews apply the micro surface treatment to the roadway, which is a thin layer of asphalt emulsion, to preserve and rejuvenate the pavement.
The northbound travel lane closure is scheduled to be in place for one day. During this closure, only southbound travel will be permitted from Ironwood Hill Drive to Speedway Boulevard.
On Friday, March 22, 2024, crews are scheduled to close the southbound travel lane for one day, to apply the micro surface treatment and only northbound travel will be permitted. During this work, access to residential and business driveways will be maintained with the exception of when heavy equipment is directly in front of a driveway.
Following the micro surface treatment, crews will re-paint the pavement markings.
This work will take place Monday through Friday from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2024.
Electronic message boards will be in place ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
In June 2022, the Tucson Mayor and Council voted and approved $15 million per year for 5 years to preserve and improve selected collector streets in the City of Tucson. This collector street improvement project was selected by the Independent Oversight and Accountability Commission (IOAC) as part of the 5-Year Collector Street Program, which is funded annually with $11 million from the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) and $4 million from the City of Tucson General Fund.
