Self-Guided Tours at Sweetwater Wetlands

Tucson Water and Arizona Project WET offer Discovery Program Journeys, a series of self-guided tours at the Sweetwater Wetlands. The Journeys start at the main kiosk. Guests can use a QR code reader app on any smart device to view the Wetlands in a scientific way while navigating this 60-acre site. Botany, Hydrology, Ornithology, and Wildlife Biology Journeys show the surface water-groundwater connection and how water is managed in Tucson.

Beginning June 3, Tucson Audubon Society is resuming weekly field trips to see waterfowl, regular and visiting warblers, and several other exciting species at the Sweetwater Wetlands. The following restrictions will apply: no more than 10 people in the group, including the guide; everyone must wear face covering; everyone must observe safe social distancing; and pre-registration is required. Birders of all experience levels are welcome. For more information and to register, contact Luke Safford at 520-209-1811 or at lsafford@tucsonaudubon.org.

  • Every Wednesday. Start times: November through February at 8 a.m.; March through April at 7 a.m.; May through August at 6 a.m.; September through October at 7 a.m.
  • There is a restroom and water bottle filling station at the facility. Bring your own water/container. Wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen, if desired.
