Armory Park Closed for Renovations
Published on September 09, 2025
Tucson Parks and Recreation closed Armory Park, 222 S. Fifth Ave., on Tuesday, Sept. 2, for renovations expected to continue through summer 2026.
The $1.71 million project, funded by the Tucson Delivers Proposition 407 bond program, will add a shade structure, plaza, benches, picnic tables, a dog park, and new lighting, along with upgrades to restrooms, irrigation, and sidewalks.
Community input was gathered through surveys, block parties, and events beginning in 2023, with the project undergoing historic review since January 2024.
We recognize that this closure has affected a weekly effort to provide food to unsheltered residents in the area. In response, City staff have reached out to service providers, volunteers, and community members to share information on alternate food resources available nearby.

The City of Tucson deeply appreciates the mutual aid groups, service providers, and volunteers who continue to serve our most vulnerable neighbors. We are committed to supporting these efforts by offering alternate locations for food distribution and ensuring the process is safe and accessible.
To help with this, the City has a permitting process for food distribution that meets Health Department standards, and staff are available to work with all groups to make this process as smooth as possible.
Tucson Parks and Recreation thanks neighborhood and community partners for their involvement. The Armory Park Center will remain open.
